Pre running next gen processor
The folks over at Mobile Computer had an interesting post today on the inside of the Palm Pre – it is one of the first devices to run the latest ARM processor. Since the Pre’s WebOS operating system has the ability to run multiple windows and applications simultaneously, it makes sense that it needs some horsepower under the hood. Supposedly, this new processor, the Cortex-8 (sounds bitchin’) is three times faster that the processor running the iPhone and one of Nokia’s most popular smartphones – the N95.
My question though: what kind of battery life can we expect out of the Pre? There were quite a few complaints about battery life when the iPhone 3G went on sale. The combination of 3G and GPS drained the battery in a half day. If the Pre comes to market and can’t hold a full-day’s charge, I’m not sure they’ll have a winner on their hands.
